Scotty How To & FAQ > FAQ > Why is my Mac not detected by Scotty?
If you followed all the steps on the How To page and Scotty still cannot detect your Mac over WiFi, open System Preferences on your Mac. Go to Sharing and select File Sharing - Options.Make sure that “Share files and folders using AFP” is active.
If AFP was already active or changing the setting doesn’t make a difference, setup a direct WiFi connection between your Mac and your iPhone.

If the network is set up, open the Settings app on your iPhone and choose the new network in the WiFi setup. Check if Scotty detects your Mac now.
Another possible cause is Bluetooth interference. Since WiFi and Bluetooth share the same physical iPhone antenna to send and receive signals, it’s best to disable Bluetooth when you are using WiFi.
If your Mac still isn’t detected try the following steps:
- Stop and start File Sharing and try again
- Restart your Mac and try again
- Restart your iPhone and try again
Note that some routers or network configurations may not work well with Apple File Sharing. For example, hotspots at hotels or institutional networks may not be compatible. To test it out, check to see if similar services work. For example, can you use Apple's Remote app to control your Mac's iTunes?
