Setting up a direct Wi-Fi connection between your Mac and your iPhone/iPad is pretty easy. On your Mac click on the AirPort icon in the top right of the menu bar. Then select "Create Network...". Give the network a name and click the Create button.

If the network is set up, open the Settings app on your iOS device and choose the new network in the WiFi setup. Geotagging to a Mac shared folder is possible now.
