GeoLogTag is an iPhone application that facilitates the geotagging of your digital photos (JPEG & RAW). While shooting photos with your digital camera (DSLR, point & shoot, ...) GeoLogTag continuously tracks your location just like a traditional GPS data logger. It’s also possible to track a location every 3, 5, 10 or 60 minutes to prolong your battery life. GeoLogTag is optimized for your iPhone’s battery:

  1. BulletContinuous log mode: 6 to 7 hours

  2. BulletLog every 3’: 9 to 10 hours

  3. BulletLog every 5’: 12 to 14 hours

  4. BulletLog every 10’: 24 hours

  5. BulletLog every 60’: several days

Battery tests were performed on an iPhone 3G running OS 3.1.2 using the proximity sensor to blank the screen while tracking locations.

You can change the log mode during a log session and when 1 of the time-based log modes is active you can add an extra location whenever you want.

GeoLogTag shows an estimation of the amount of battery time left for a given log mode.

After your photoshoot, GeoLogTag plays a different role (in the geotagging process) depending on where you keep your photos.

If you're a Mac user, life becomes very simple. For you, GeoLogTag is an all-in-one geotagging solution for a ridiculous low price. No extra hardware or software is required. Both JPEG and RAW photos are supported.

  1. BulletUse Image Capture - an application that ships with every Mac - to capture your photos in a (shared) folder.

  2. BulletSelect the shared folder in GeoLogTag. To accomplish this, both the Mac and the iPhone must be clients of the same WiFi network.

  3. BulletTap the geotag button to start geotagging your photos.

  4. BulletWhen geotagging is finished, import the photos in iPhoto (Places) or any other photo management application on your Mac (Adobe Lightroom, Aperture, Picasa, ...)

Although GeoLogTag is successfully tested with photos of 3000+ different digital cameras - just to play safe - your original photos are moved to a subfolder before they are geotagged.

Note for Aperture 3 users shooting RAW: Read this FAQ page.

If you're a Windows user, direct geotagging is not available but you can use the GPX file (containing timestamps and locations) exported by GeoLogTag in combination with a Windows geotagging application like GeoSetter or RoboGeo.

For GPX file export you can either mail the GPX file or download the GPX file in a browser (over WiFi).

If you use the Flickr service to store photos, your workflow is similar to the Mac workflow with the exception that the location is not stored in your photo, but is managed by Flickr. The Flickr Map will give you a nice overview of where you took the ‘geotagged by GeoLogTag’-photos.

A more detailed description on how to use GeoLogTag can be found here or you can browse through the FAQ pages if you have more specific questions.
