Why are my geotagged RAW photos not visible in iPhoto Places?

GeoLogTag geotags RAW photos by generating so called XMP sidecar files. These XMP files contain the location information for their respective RAW counterpart.

Photo management applications like Adobe Lightroom extract the location information from the XMP sidecar file when the RAW photo is imported.

iPhoto lacks this functionality, but there is a workaround available. Use GPSPhotoLinker to write the location into the RAW photos by using the GPX file exported by GeoLogTag. Then import the RAW photos in iPhoto. They will automatically show up in Places.
